At 74 years old and married to his wife for 52 years, Harold values quality time with family and the freedom to enjoy life. But for years, symptoms from an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), made everyday activities more difficult.
“I was taking medications for years and years, and they just weren’t doing what they were supposed to do,” Harold shared.
Harold previously underwent a UroLift procedure, which helped for about five years. When his symptoms returned after his physician retired, he struggled to find a urologist who could help and returned to medication. He continued to deal with trouble emptying his bladder, a weak stream, and frequent urgency.
“Traveling was tough because I was always worried about finding a restroom,” Harold said. “And I didn’t want to keep having UroLift done over and over.”
When Dr. Tao Cui joined Piedmont HealthCare and opened Piedmont Urology, Harold’s primary care provider referred him for an appointment, and he finally found the help he had been searching for.
“Right off the bat, I loved Dr. Cui,” Harold said. “He was personal, knowledgeable, and explained everything.”
Aquablation for Enlarged Prostate
After carefully reviewing Harold’s history and symptoms, Dr. Cui walked him through all of his treatment options and focused on finding a long-term solution that fit Harold’s goals. Because of Harold’s specific situation, Dr. Cui felt Aquablation therapy would be the safest and most effective long-term solution.
Aquablation is a minimally invasive treatment for BPH that uses a precise, heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue causing urinary symptoms. Unlike some procedures that use heat or lasers, Aquablation is designed to provide lasting symptom relief while helping protect surrounding tissue.
Harold admits he was hesitant at first, but Dr. Cui took the time to answer questions and make him feel comfortable moving forward.
The procedure itself took only about 30 to 40 minutes, and Harold says the experience was much easier than he expected.
“There was no pain at all,” he shared.
After just one night in the hospital, Harold was back on his feet and noticed an immediate difference.
“I could tell the difference right away,” Harold said. “Within a few weeks, I felt fully recovered.”
Today, Harold says he’s sleeping better, waking up less during the night, and enjoying a much better quality of life without constantly worrying about restroom access when traveling.
“It’s made a huge difference,” Harold said. “I would definitely recommend Dr. Cui to anyone dealing with this. Go talk to him.”
Harold also praised the Piedmont HealthCare team at Dr. Cui’s office, saying the staff was “super friendly, helpful, and great” throughout the entire experience.
Dr. Tao Cui is accepting new patients and is committed to helping individuals find lasting solutions that improve daily comfort and quality of life.
