Piedmont HealthCare Endoscopy Center has once again earned national recognition from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), receiving a three-year renewal through the organization’s prestigious Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program. The recognition highlights the center’s continued commitment to delivering exceptional patient care while meeting rigorous national standards for quality and safety in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
As Piedmont HealthCare celebrates 30 years of caring for the communities of the greater Lake Norman and Iredell County region, this achievement reflects the organization’s longstanding commitment to clinical excellence and providing advanced specialty care close to home.
The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors facilities that demonstrate excellence in patient safety, quality assurance, infection prevention, staff competency, and adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines. Through a comprehensive peer-reviewed application process, recognized facilities must demonstrate ongoing compliance with nationally recognized standards and a commitment to continuous quality improve4ment.
“We are honored to once again receive this recognition from ASGE,” said Dr. Nikhiel Rau, Medical Director of Piedmont HealthCare Endoscopy Center. “This renewal reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses, and staff who work every day to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality care. Our patients place their trust in us, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in every procedure we perform.”
For patients, the recognition provides added confidence that the Piedmont HealthCare Endoscopy Center follows nationally recognized best practices designed to promote patient safety, excellent clinical outcomes, and an exceptional care experience.
To earn recognition, endoscopy units must demonstrate the continued competency of all staff, maintain comprehensive quality assurance and infection prevention programs, follow established endoscope reprocessing guidelines, and routinely evaluate performance using key quality indicators. The program applies to office-based endoscopy units, hospital-based endoscopy units, and ambulatory surgery centers throughout the United States.
Piedmont HealthCare Endoscopy Center is among more than 600 endoscopy units nationwide to have earned ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition since the program’s inception in 2009.

About Endoscopy
Endoscopy is performed by physicians called endoscopists using the most current technology to diagnose and treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Using flexible, thin tubes called endoscopes, endoscopists are able to access the human digestive tract without incisions via natural orifices. Endoscopes are designed with high-intensity lighting and fitted with precision devices that allow viewing and treatment of the gastrointestinal system.
