As a person ages, the skin loses elasticity creating wrinkles from the constant movement of facial muscles. Dysport® is directly injected into the muscles connected to the wrinkles, also called glabullar muscles, immobilizing them to create the appearance of smoother skin. On average, around 3 to 5 injections are needed to adequately cover the wrinkled portion of skin around the eyebrows between the eyes. Pain is minimal, though an anesthetic cream is available for those who may experience a slight discomfort.
The results of Dysport® become more distinct anywhere between one to seven days after treatment. A large clinical trial sponsored by Dysport® published in the March/April 2009 issue of Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery reported that the effects lasted more than 13 months in some people. This FDA approved neurotoxin has been used for over 10 years in 34 different countries.
