September 14, 2022, Statesville, NC– Piedmont HealthCare welcomes Dr. Andrea Wurzer, DO to Piedmont HealthCare Taylorsville Family Medicine. Dr. Wurzer joins the practice following Dr. Merrill’s retirement on September 8th.
After 42 years serving the Taylorsville community, Dr. Steven Merrill, is retiring. For over four decades Dr. Merrill worked hard to create an atmosphere where patients felt like family when they walked through the door. “I trust Dr. Wurzer will be shown as much love and support from this community that my family and I have been shown over the years,” says Dr. Merrill.
Dr. Wurzer, a West Iredell Graduate and former Piedmont HealthCare employee finds herself in a full circle moment as she joins the PHC Taylorsville Family Medicine Office. “The Taylorsville Family Practice stood out because of its people, both the staff and its patients. Dr. Merrill has built a solid patient-centered practice with a strong sense of community and caring” says Dr. Andrea Wurzer. “Immediately on entering the office you are greeted with a smile and it’s apparent that the staff work closely and well together with a central focus of how they can best care for the patient.”
Dr. Wurzer graduated Cum Laude at Erskine College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Moving back to her hometown of Statesville, Dr. Andrea Wurzer worked as a medical assistant at Piedmont HealthCare Express Care. Through the support of Piedmont HealthCare Physicians and staff, Dr. Wurzer was encouraged to apply to medical school. She then attained her medical school training at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Wurzer went on to complete her Family Medicine Residency at Naval Hospital Pensacola where she achieved the title of Chief Resident. Lieutenant Commander Wurzer was then awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal while serving as staff physician from 2016 to 2020.
In her free time, Dr. Wurzer enjoys spending time with her husband, Matthew, and their three children. Their family enjoys being outdoors whether it is kayaking or paddling on Lake Norman, gardening at home, or camping.
Dr. Andrea Wurzer is now accepting new patients at Taylorsville Family Medicine, 393 3rd Avenue SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Call 704-871-2163 or visit https://piedmonthealthcare.com/location/phc-taylorsville-family-practice/ for more information.
