Piedmont HealthCare CEO Named “Citizen of the Year” at Greater Statesville Chamber Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet

April 27, 2022, Statesville, NC – On Tuesday evening, April 26, 2022, Piedmont HealthCare’s CEO, Jeffrey Smith, was awarded the distinguished Citizen of the Year award at the Greater Statesville Chamber Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet.

Jeff Smith Receiving Citizen of the Year Award

This honor is annually bestowed upon one community member that represents us all in an effort to make Statesville a better place. Bill Brater, president of Nicholson Funeral Home, presented the award. In his presentation, he recited a few quotes received on Jeff’s behalf:

“After moving to Statesville 8 years ago, this person truly immersed himself in our community. The move to Statesville quickly became so much more than a new job…but a new place to live, play, give back, and drive a culture change in the workplace. This person serves on both local and nationwide boards, and led his organization through some of the most challenging years healthcare will ever face. Championing over 1,200 employees this citizen instills a passion for giving back to the Statesville community through a variety of partnerships and local non-profits. Ultimately, through such a positive experience in Statesville, his grown children and 5 grandchildren followed him and his wife to the area. They are all proud to call this place “home,” and couldn’t be more proud of the path this citizen has taken.”

Jeffrey W. Smith, CEO of Piedmont HealthCare

Mr. Smith was both surprised and humbled by this honor. “This award really isn’t about me,” he remarked. “This is not about one person. The people I am honored to work with every day are absolutely amazing and Piedmont is one of the greatest places to work. My hope, however, tonight is that we continue the mission and continue to drive this place forward to make it better. It is already a great place, but it’s got so much more. I love Statesville…it’s where it all comes together!”
