National Radiologic Technology Week® is celebrated annually to recognize the vital work of R.T.s across the nation. The celebration takes place each year during the week that includes Nov. 8 to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895.
The week-long celebration calls attention to the important role medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals play in patient care and health care safety.
When you’re scheduled for a medical imaging examination or radiation therapy treatment, the person who performs your exam or delivers your treatment is called a radiologic technologist. Registered radiologic technologists, R.T.s, are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and patient care.
Radiologic technology includes: X-ray, Computed Tomography (CT), Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac-Interventional Radiography, Vascular-Interventional Radiography, Mammography, Magnetic Resonance, Sonography and Bone Densitometry.
