Your skin is a body organ, just like your heart, lungs and liver. In fact, it’s larger than all of those organs combined. So it makes sense that any healthy living tips are going to benefit the largest organ in – or on – the body.
As you’re getting ready to head to the office, neighbor or family holiday parties this season, remember these helpful habits that will help keep your body and all of its organs healthy.
- Eat a healthy meal before the party. Many people think it’s better to skip the meal before the party if they’re going to be eating at the gathering. It’s better to eat a lite, healthy meal rather than arriving with an empty stomach.
- Choose appetizers wisely. Look for options lower in calories and fat. Examples include fruits and vegetables, sliced cheese, seafood and turkey or chicken breast. Avoid cheese dips, casseroled or gravy dishes and too many sweets.
- Step away from the buffet table. Once you’ve filled a small plate, walk away from the appetizers and socialize in another room. If you engage in small talk near the food, you’re likely to refill when you may otherwise not.
- Drink alcohol wisely. Avoid high-caloric beverages. Drink a glass of water after each glass of alcohol and limit the amount of alcohol you consume.
- Eat slowly. It takes your brain approximately 20 minutes after eating to receive the message from the stomach that you’re full. Concentrate on engaging in conversation before refilling your food plate.
- Allow yourself fun foods. Avoidance may likely cause you to gorge later. Moderation is key. If you want to enjoy that sweet holiday dessert, what high calorie food are you willing to forego in exchange for it?
When it comes to particulars about your skin, keeping your skincare routine is important. Don’t skip your morning and evening moisturizing steps. Even though it’s the winter months, avoid long, hot showers. Drink plenty of water each day and get plenty of rest.
