In 2001, Bill Webb blazed a trail as the first-ever lab courier at Piedmont HealthCare. Throughout the years, he witnessed the organization’s growth in staff and offices.
Bill reflects, “Everyone has always been nice to me. I have gotten along with everyone for over 20 years.”
The support he has received since announcing his retirement has been heartwarming, he mentions “everyone has been so nice about me retiring. I am getting hugs every day.”
If it can be driven, you better believe Bill has taken it for a spin. The day Bill turned 16 and got his license, he began driving a laundry route for a laundry mat business. He has driven motorcycles, tractor trailers hauling up to 80,000 lbs, and has had an impressive 60-year career competing in NASCAR-sanctioned races. “I don’t want to brag, but I am pretty good at driving,” says Bill.
Bill’s NASCAR journey began with a bang at the iconic Hickory Motor Speedway. Building his own race car, Bill crossed the finish line as a champion in his very first race. “I started racing when the track was still dirt,” says Bill. Fast forward 60 years to 2019, Bill sealed his NASCAR career with one final victory.
Beyond his accomplishments on the track, Bill has created long-lasting friendships here at Piedmont HealthCare. He is a familiar face to all 70+ of our Piedmont HealthCare offices. A perfect example of this organization’s admiration for Bill can be seen every morning as he enters Sailview Family Medicine. As soon as he steps through the doors the whole Sailview staff greets Bill with a synchronized “Good Morning, Bill!” And to top it off, Bill proudly reveals, “I even got Dr. Losinski to join them. I am going to miss moments like that. That means a lot to me”.
Monday, June 12th will be Bill’s last day driving the route that he originally designed over 20 years ago. At 87 years old Bill is eagerly anticipating driving off into a well-deserved retirement. “I am looking forward to some relaxation” he states. Bill’s retirement plans include spending more time with his wife, Nancy, along with his 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Thank you, Bill, for your unwavering dedication and for being the bright light to so many Piedmont HealthCare employee’s day. Your hard work has made a lasting impact here at Piedmont HealthCare. Happy Retirement Bill!
